Surveyor / Engineer | Timaru / Waitaki

Max People are looking for a Surveyor / Civil Engineer to join a busy civil construction team working across the Timaru and Waitaki region.

We’re open to both graduates looking to build their civil career and experienced professionals ready to take on greater responsibility.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll be involved in project delivery, planning, coordination and problem-solving. You’ll work closely with site crews, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to keep projects moving and ensure the work is delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

‍What You’ll Be Doing

• Assisting with project management of works under your control
• Project planning, programming, cost control and reporting
• Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and onsite resources
• Managing project documentation and budgets
• Supporting project delivery and resource planning
• Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and local authorities
• Supporting bids and pricing with practical, constructable solutions
• Monitoring programme, quality and project requirements
• Championing health & safety and continuous improvement
• Working with site teams to identify issues and find practical solutions

What We’re Looking For

‍Depending on the level you’re applying for, you’ll bring:

• Relevant tertiary qualification, ideally a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Surveying
• Civil construction experience for senior applicants
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn
• Good project planning and organisational skills
• Ability to build strong working relationships across crews, clients and delivery partners
• Strong safety focus
• Practical, solutions-driven mindset
• Collaborative, team-first approach
• Ability to take ownership and see tasks through

Graduate applicants: You don’t need years of experience – we’re looking for the right attitude, qualifications and willingness to learn.

‍Senior applicants: You’ll bring solid civil construction experience and be confident managing projects, resources, costs and relationships.
