Full Job Description

Based in Dannevirke, Manawatū-Whanganui, this is a fantastic opportunity for a capable Dairy Assistant ready to step up into a leadership role.This position is designed as a development pathway — working closely with a supportive, hands-on owner this season to build your confidence across all aspects of farm management, with the goal of stepping into full responsibility of the farm moving forward into 2027 .The farm milks 390 cows through a 40-aside herringbone shed and offers a manageable scale where you can genuinely grow your skills, take ownership, and make an impact.

Details:

  • Start Date: Flexible, could start this season or on the 1st June
  • Permanent, full-time role
  • Roster: 5 days on / 2 days off
  • Accommodation: Tidy 3-bedroom house included
  • Location: Dannevirke, Manawatū-Whanganui

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for someone with a minimum of 1 years experience who is ready to take the next step but still wants full guidance and support.With the right attitude, this role offers a clear pathway to managing the farm unit in June 2027.

Tasks:

  • Milking 390 cows through a 40-aside herringbone shed
  • Animal health, feeding, and pasture management
  • Tractor work, feeding out, and general farm duties
  • Assisting with calving, mating, and herd planning
  • Maintaining accurate records and supporting compliance

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year dairy farming experience
  • Ready to step up and take on more responsibility
  • Good stock sense and pasture knowledge
  • Strong communication and organisation skills
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions
  • Full driver licence
  • Able to pass a drug test
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand (AEWV not available)
