About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Spider/Crawler Crane Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining spider cranes to lift, move, position, and reposition heavy materials and equipment on construction sites and industrial projects. Our client is one of the leading suppliers and erectors of structural steel in the South Island. They have completed numerous projects over several decades, including iconic landmarks such as Southland Stadium, Forsythe Barr Stadium, Burwood Hospital, and Christchurch Convention Centre.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Safely operate spider cranes to lift, move, position, and reposition materials and equipment according to project requirements.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on spider cranes to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  • Inspect rigging equipment and attachments to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate lifts and ensure site safety.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on spider cranes as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of crane operations, maintenance activities, and any incidents or accidents.
  • Follow all relevant regulations and standards governing crane operations.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to crane operators and other team members as needed

What We Require:

  • Proven experience as a spider crane operator.
  • Valid crane operator certification/license.
  • Spider Crane Maeda MC104C
  • NZ Unit standard 26505
  • Dogman ticket required
  • Strong knowledge of crane operation techniques, rigging practices, and safety procedures.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred but not essential.
  • WAH (Working at Heights) and Safety and Harness certifications ideal.
  • Experience operating other types of cranes and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction and industrial processes.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Be reliable, trustworthy, and team player.
  • A good level of physical fitness
  • Strong awareness for all things H&S
  • Valid Site Safe - we can assist with this
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug test
