About The Role
Max People are working with a well-established Canterbury civil contractor with a strong pipeline of subdivision and land development projects across the region.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Site Manager to take the lead across multiple civil construction projects and high-performing site teams.
This is a permanent, hands-off-the-tools leadership role where you'll be responsible for keeping projects moving, teams performing and problems sorted before they become tomorrow's headache.
If you enjoy taking ownership, leading from the front and delivering quality civil projects safely, efficiently and on programme, this could be the step up you've been looking for.
What You Will Be Doing
- Managing multiple subdivision and land development sites across Canterbury.
- Planning and coordinating labour, plant, subcontractors and resources.
- Driving daily and weekly production targets.
- Monitoring project progress, productivity and programme.
- Identifying and resolving site issues before they impact delivery.
- Leading, mentoring and developing Site Supervisors and Team Leaders.
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality and environmental compliance.
- Liaising with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
- Monitoring project costs, labour utilisation and production rates.
- Ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard.
What We Require
We're looking for an experienced civil construction leader who knows what good looks like on site and can get the best out of people. You'll ideally bring:
- Proven experience managing civil construction, subdivision or land development projects.
- Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage and reticulation.
- Experience across water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of roading, kerb and channel, pavements and final trim.
- Experience managing crews, subcontractors and plant.
- Strong planning, communication and leadership skills.
- Good understanding of production rates, labour utilisation and project costs.
- Confidence using modern construction software and technology.
- A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach.
- Full New Zealand Driver Licence.
- Valid Site Safe or Construct Safe – we can assist with this.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug test.
- Current NZ working rights.
Qualifications & Tickets
The following would be advantageous, although strong practical experience will be highly regarded:
- NZCE (Civil)
- NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil)
- NZ Diploma in Construction
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or similar
- STMS qualification
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Confined Space or other relevant civil tickets
What's In It For You?
- Permanent, full-time position with a stable Canterbury contractor.
- Competitive salary package.
- Company vehicle.
- Strong pipeline of subdivision and land development projects.
- Opportunity to lead multiple high-profile civil projects.
- Supportive management team that trusts its Site Managers to get the job done.
- Career progression with a growing business.
- A leadership role where you can influence projects, people and results.
