We're looking for an experienced Project Superintendent to lead the operational delivery of a major project at Benmore Hydro — one of New Zealand's most significant renewable energy assets.

You'll have genuine authority over construction delivery, leading multiple civil, structural and mechanical work fronts while managing Supervisors, Foremen, Leading Hands and site engineering teams.

This is complex infrastructure in an operating environment. It requires strong planning, clear leadership and someone who can spot a problem early and deal with it before it becomes tomorrow's emergency.

Location Benmore, with a rostered working arrangement. Accommodation and a living-away allowance are provided for employees working away from home.

  • Develop and drive three-week look-ahead programmes
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and specialist suppliers
  • Sequence civil and mechanical works around access and installation requirements

  • Monitor productivity and remove barriers before they affect programme
  • Maintain safe, organised and properly resourced work fronts
  • Drive quality assurance, testing, commissioning and handover
  • Manage critical risks across heavy lifting, stored energy and work at height
  • Maintain clear communication with project leaders and key stakeholders
  • Develop Supervisors, Foremen and emerging site leaders
  • Address performance issues early and maintain clear accountability

What We RequireWe're looking for a proven construction leader with the ability to manage multiple teams and complex work fronts without losing sight of safety, quality or the programme. You'll ideally bring:

  • Extensive experience leading major construction delivery
  • Experience across civil, mechanical, industrial, energy or heavy infrastructure
  • Proven ability to manage multiple teams through Supervisors and Foremen
  • Strong short-term planning, sequencing and resource management capability
  • A relevant civil or mechanical trade qualification
  • Practical understanding of complex mechanical installation and civil-mechanical interfaces
  • Experience coordinating temporary works and heavy lifting activities

  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and construction methodologies
  • Calm, decisive and practical problem-solving skills
  • Strong client and stakeholder management ability
  • Full New Zealand driver licence
  • Valid Site Safe or Construct Safe – we can assist with this

A mechanical trade background would be valuable, but it isn't essential if you can demonstrate strong multidisciplinary construction leadership.

Experience in hydro generation, renewable energy, heavy industrial construction, marine infrastructure, pump stations or operating assets would also be highly regarded.
