Project Manager | Civil Infrastructure

Max People are looking for an experienced Civil Project Manager to join a growing Christchurch business delivering complex infrastructure projects.

This is a hands-on Project Manager role for someone who understands how construction actually happens. The business self-performs a significant amount of its work, so you’ll be close to the construction, involved in methodology, labour, plant, productivity and programme – not just managing subcontractors from the sidelines.

Projects include work in live operational and public environments, with challenging staging and civil, structural and mechanical interfaces.

You’ll take ownership from planning and programming through to delivery, commercial performance and close-out.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead projects safely, commercially and successfully
• Develop programmes, sequencing and resource plans
• Manage costs, forecasting, margins and project risk
• Manage contracts, variations, claims and commercial matters
• Coordinate labour, plant, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist teams
• Develop practical construction methodologies
• Drive productivity, quality and programme
• Manage civil, structural and mechanical interfaces
• Build strong client and consultant relationships
• Lead and develop site-based project teams
• Provide clear reporting with no surprises
• Ensure site H&S, risk management and compliance requirements are met
• Solve problems before they become dramas

What We’re Looking For

‍You’ll be an experienced Civil Construction Project Manager with a strong track record delivering complex projects from start to finish. You’ll bring:

• Strong commercial and contractual skills
• Good knowledge of NZ construction contracts, ideally NZS 3910
• Experience with a self-performing civil contractor
• Strong understanding of project cost, forecasting, margin and risk
• Solid construction knowledge and practical methodology skills
• Experience leading site-based teams
• Strong programme and planning skills
• Excellent communication and client-facing ability
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical construction experience

Experience with pump stations, process systems, pipework, mechanical equipment, electrical interfaces or other multidisciplinary civil projects would be a real advantage. You don’t need to be a mechanical engineer – but you do need to be comfortable bringing different specialist teams together and keeping everyone focused on the end result.
