Max People are looking for two experienced Excavator Operators to join a busy civil construction team delivering major drainage, earthworks, subdivision, and infrastructure projects across Invercargill.

This is an opportunity to work alongside one of New Zealand's leading Tier One civil contractors, operating modern excavators from 5T through to 30T. You'll be part of a skilled crew working on significant projects where precision, productivity, and safety matter.

You'll spend your days in the cab doing what you do best—excavating, trimming, loading, backfilling and shifting material—while working closely with ground crews to keep the project moving. There's plenty of variety, consistent workflow, and the opportunity to develop your skills across major civil projects.

What You Will Be Doing

• Operating 5T–30T excavators safely and efficiently
• Excavating trenches for stormwater and wastewater infrastructure
• Trimming batters, levels and formation
• Loading trucks and moving materials around site
• Backfilling and compacting trenches
• Assisting drainage crews and ground staff
• Working around underground services and existing infrastructure
• Completing daily pre-starts, machine checks and basic maintenance
• Supporting wider civil construction activities when required
• Maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy and workmanship

What We Require

• Minimum 3 years' excavator operating experience
• Proven civil construction experience
• Experience operating excavators from 5T through to 30T
• Strong understanding of excavation and underground services
• Drainage experience preferred
• GPS machine control experience advantageous
• WTR endorsement essential
• Full Class 1 Driver Licence
• Class 2 Licence advantageous
• Site Safe Passport preferred
• First Aid Certificate advantageous
• Reliable, safety-focused and team-oriented approach
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
