Excavator Operator | Drainage Labourer

About The Role

We’re on the lookout for an experienced Excavator Operator to join a busy drainage and civil team in Christchurch. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone confident on the machine but equally willing to jump out and support the crew on the ground.

You’ll be working across residential and commercial drainage projects, carrying out trenching, pipe installation, and repair work. If you enjoy variety and being part of a tight-knit team, this is a great opportunity.

What You Will Be Doing

• Operating excavators for trenching and drainage works
• Excavating trenches up to 3 metres deep
• Assisting with laying drainage pipes and services
• Working around live utilities, tree roots, and existing services
• Supporting stormwater and sewer installations and repairs
• Assisting with site preparation, backfilling, and compaction
• Labouring alongside drainlayers as required
• Maintaining a clean and safe worksite
• Carrying out daily machine checks and basic maintenance

What We Require

• Proven experience operating excavators in drainage or civil works
• Experience with trenching and pipe installation
• Willingness to labour and support the crew
• Good understanding of site safety and working around services
• Reliable with a strong work ethic
• WTR endorsements required
• Drainage experience highly regarded
• Valid Site Safe or Construct Safe – we can assist with this
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
