About The Role‍

‍Good drainage is the work nobody notices—until it's done wrong.

Max People are looking for an experienced Drainlayer to join a skilled civil construction team delivering stormwater, wastewater, and infrastructure projects across Christchurch and Canterbury.

You'll be working on major subdivisions, roading developments, and infrastructure upgrades, installing pipelines and structures that keep communities moving. From setting out pipe runs and checking grades through to installing manholes, sumps and chambers, this is a hands-on role where accuracy, experience, and good teamwork matter.

You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced crews for one of New Zealand's leading Tier One civil contractors, gaining exposure to significant infrastructure projects while building on your existing skills.

With $35–$42 per hour, consistent full-time work, PPE provided, and the potential for permanent employment, this is a great opportunity for an experienced Drainlayer looking for their next long-term move.

What You Will Be Doing

• Installing stormwater, wastewater, and sewer pipelines
• Reading plans and setting out pipe runs accurately
• Installing manholes, sumps, chambers, and associated structures
• Using lasers to check levels, grades, and falls
• Carrying out trenching and safe excavation practices
• Working safely around excavators and heavy machinery
• Completing pressure testing and inspections
• Ensuring installations meet council and project specifications
• Supporting the wider civil crew as required
• Maintaining a safe, tidy, and productive worksite

What We Require

• Minimum 3 years' drainlaying experience
• Experience with concrete, PVC, and PE pipelines
• Confident reading construction plans
• Strong understanding of grades, levels, and pipe falls
• Current Drainlayer Registration preferred but not essential
• Full Class 1 Driver Licence
• WTR endorsement advantageous
• Confined Space certification preferred
• Site Safe Passport preferred
• First Aid certification advantageous
• Physically fit, reliable, and safety-focused
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
• Valid NZ working rights
