Looking for a change of scenery and the chance to experience life in beautiful South Otago?

This is a great opportunity for two people to join a well-established dairy farm near Balclutha.

Milking around 1,000 cows across 400 hectares, the farm combines modern technology with practical, well-managed farming systems. The rotary shed features ACRs, automatic teat spraying, milk monitoring and in-shed feeding.

There is also a 40-bale herringbone shed, giving you the opportunity to work across different milking systems.

This is a casual assignment for a minimum of three months, starting in September/October 2026. With an 8 days on / 3 days off roster and an average of around 40/45 hours per week, you'll have a good balance between getting stuck into the work and enjoying your time off.

Farm Systems & Equipment:

  • 50-bale rotary shed
  • 40-bale herringbone shed
  • ACRs
  • Automatic teat spraying
  • Milk monitoring system

  • Quad bikes
  • Side-by-sides
  • Travelling irrigator for effluent

Tasks:

  • Milking and daily shed operations
  • Working across rotary and herringbone milking systems
  • Animal health and stock management
  • Feeding and general dairy farm duties
  • Operating farm vehicles and equipment
  • Effluent management using a travelling irrigator
  • General farm maintenance
  • Supporting seasonal farm work and the wider team
  • Maintaining high standards of animal care and farm presentation

Requirements:

  • Previous dairy farming experience preferred
  • Good stock sense and animal handling skills
  • Reliable, hardworking and happy to get involved
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work the 8/3 roster
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
