Spring Calving Assistants x2
We’re looking for two enthusiastic farm assistants to join our clients team across two neighbouring dairy units in Mabel Bush, Southland during peak calving season.

  • Flexible start and finish dates – core need from 1st August to 30th September, could Start June through till Novemebr
  • Calving 1,450 cows over 2 months – gain real-world experience on busy farms
  • Furnished accommodation + small car provided for shared use

Full Job Description:

This placement is perfect for a couple, friends, or two individuals who are looking to gain valuable New Zealand dairy experience over spring. The two farms are side-by-side, each milking 730 cows on a System 4 setup with large calving pads and a herd home for feeding. You’ll be placed one on each farm but work similar rosters and have shared accommodation and the same days off.

You’ll join a friendly, experienced team of 6 staff, with owners who’ve previously hosted international workers including students from UCD and Irish candidates on working holidays.

Location:

Invercargill is just a short drive away, with access to the Catlins, Fiordland, and Southland’s rugged beauty.

Remuneration:

  • $25 per hour + 8% holiday pay (gross)
  • Furnished farm accommodation – $100/week per person
  • Small farm car provided for use

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with spring calving and post-natal animal care
  • Help with feeding systems, including herd home and calving pad management
  • General farm maintenance, shed cleaning, and calf rearing
  • Support existing full-time staff with day-to-day farm tasks

Rosters:

  • August–September: 6 days on, 1 day off (same day off for both)
  • Optional July start for wintering work (barn/crop/silage management)
  • October wrap-up flexible depending on your plans

Role Requirements:

✔ Must have Milking experience

✔ Good communication and ability to work independently

✔ Legal right to work in New Zealand

✔ Able to pass a drug test if requested

✔ Driver’s license preferred
