Full Job Description:

Located in the heart of West Otago, this fourth-generation dairy and beef farm offers a great opportunity for two people to join a well-established, modern operation.

The farm runs around 700 cows across 668 hectares, along with beef-cross youngstock and an Angus stud. With tidy systems, good stockmanship and modern technology, this is a well-organised farm where people can take pride in the standard of their work.

The team culture is built around communication, reliability and genuine care for the animals and land. New team members are supported to learn, develop their skills and become part of a team that backs each other.

This is initially a minimum 3-month assignment, with the potential to become a longer-term opportunity or permanent position for the right people.

  • Start date: Mid-September 2026
  • 2 people required
  • Herd size: Approximately 700 cows
  • Farm size: 668 hectares
  • Location: Gore, West Otago
  • Wage: $29.50–$32 per hour, depending on skill level
  • Roster during calving: 6 days on / 1 day off for approximately 6 weeks
  • Roster after calving: 4 days on / 2 days off
  • Accommodation: Furnished 2-bedroom accommodation available if required

Tasks:

  • Milking and daily rotary shed operations
  • Animal health and stock management
  • Calving and youngstock work
  • Monitoring herd performance and cow health
  • General dairy farm duties
  • Farm maintenance and keeping systems tidy
  • Operating farm vehicles and machinery as required
  • Supporting the wider dairy and beef operation
  • Working as part of the team to maintain high standards across the farm

  • 54-bale rotary shed
  • ACRs
  • Yield monitoring
  • SCC sensors
  • CowManager
  • Protrack
  • 2-wheelers, quad and side-by-side
  • Effluent irrigation

Requirements:

  • Previous dairy farming experience
  • Good stockmanship and animal handling skills
  • Reliable and responsible approach to farm work
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and contribute across the farm
  • Ability to work the required roster
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
