Dairy Assistant | Large scale | Multi rotary operation

Full Job Description

‍Located near Rakaia, this is an opportunity to join a substantial and well-structured dairy business milking 2,200 cows across 625 hectares. The farm operates two rotary sheds (80-bail and 60-bail), both fitted with ACRs and Protrack, allowing efficient milking across a large herd.

The operation is fully equipped with a wide range of irrigation systems including pivots, rotorainers, spinners, and sprinklers, along with strong internal infrastructure and a run-off block accessed directly from the dairy platform, adding valuable variety to the role.This position would suit someone confident working in large herds who enjoys variety across shed, stock, and machinery work.

‍Details:‍

• Start Date: January 14th – minimum 3 months
• Salary: $62,000 per annum
• Roster: 6 days on / 2 days off
• Accommodation: Shared accommodation with own bedroom and bathroom
• Rent: $150 per week

Tasks:‍

• Milking 2,200 cows across two modern rotary sheds
• Supporting animal health and herd flow using Protrack systems
• Assisting with irrigation management across multiple systems
• Tractor and machinery operation including wagons, rollers, and trailers
• General farm duties including feeding out, stock movement, and yard work
• Supporting operations on the run-off block via internal farm access

Requirements:‍

• Previous dairy farming experience essential (large-herd experience preferred)
• Confident in rotary shed operations
• Comfortable operating tractors and farm machinery
• Good English communication skills
• Reliable, safety-focused, and team-oriented
• Legal right to work in New Zealand (AEWV not available)
