This is much more than running a crew.

We're looking for a practical site leader who can plan ahead, keep people moving and make sure the work gets done safely, efficiently and properly. You'll lead from the front, taking ownership of day-to-day site operations while ensuring your crew has what they need to succeed.

You'll join a growing Wellington team delivering complex infrastructure projects across the lower North Island. Current projects include the Carterton Wastewater Treatment Plant Headworks Upgrade and a major New Zealand Defence Force fire protection upgrade at Ohakea.

With a strong pipeline of work ahead, this is a great opportunity to lead significant projects while helping shape the future of a growing regional team.

About The Role

Working closely with Project Managers and Engineers, you'll coordinate crews, subcontractors, plant and materials to keep projects progressing safely and on programme.

You'll also play an important role in developing your team. From mentoring emerging leaders to coaching performance and setting the standard on site, you'll help build great people as well as great projects.

What's In It For You

  • Competitive remuneration package
  • Company vehicle
  • UniMed Health Insurance after 90 days, including pre-existing conditions
  • Ongoing leadership development and technical training
  • Clear career pathways and progression opportunities
  • Interesting and complex infrastructure projects
  • A supportive team that values collaboration and doing things properly

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead crews and subcontractors across multiple work fronts
  • Develop short-term work plans and coordinate daily activities
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials and resources
  • Lead daily pre-starts, planning meetings and toolbox talks
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers
  • Monitor productivity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Coordinate subcontractors and maintain programme progress
  • Drive a visible and proactive safety culture
  • Ensure quality standards and construction requirements are met
  • Mentor, coach and develop team members
  • Build positive relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders

What We RequireWe're looking for practical leaders who enjoy building great teams as much as building great projects. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Proven experience leading civil construction crews
  • Experience delivering complex civil infrastructure projects
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and daily site operations
  • A practical understanding of construction sequencing and productivity
  • Ability to read drawings and interpret project specifications
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Confidence mentoring and developing team members
  • A proactive approach to safety, quality and continuous improvement
  • Experience with concrete structures, drainage, mechanical installations or structural works is advantageous
  • Water, wastewater, pump station or industrial infrastructure experience is beneficial, but not essential
  • Valid Site Safe or Construct Safe – we can assist with this
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug Test

If you're a capable Foreman or Site Supervisor ready to take ownership, lead a great crew and work on infrastructure projects that will keep you interested, we'd like to hear from you.
