About The Role
Max People is looking for a hands-on Civil Foreman / 2IC / Operator to join a busy civil construction team working across the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes regions.
This is not a role for someone who enjoys standing on the sidelines with a clipboard. We’re after someone who can lead a small crew, jump on the tools, operate plant and keep the job moving. You’ll be working across utilities projects including drainage, water, power, trenching, structural works and general civil construction.
You’ll liaise with the Project Manager and subcontractors while making sure the crew, plant and work fronts are all heading in the right direction.Start: Mid SeptemberPay: $35–$45 per hour, negotiable based on experienceLocation: Central Otago / Queenstown Lakes

What You Will Be Doing
- Lead and work alongside a small civil crew
- Carry out drainage, water, power and utility trenching
- Operate excavators, trucks, loaders and other plant
- Work safely around live services and within road corridors
- Assist with site setup, planning and daily coordination
- Liaise with Project Managers, subcontractors and other site teams
- Keep projects moving and deal with the inevitable curveballs
- Maintain high standards of safety, workmanship and productivity
- Help with structural foundation and retaining works where required
- Jump on the tools when needed – because good leaders know how the job gets done
What We Require
- Proven experience in civil utilities and trenching
- Strong experience with drainage, water, power or general site works
- Previous experience leading a small crew or ready to step up into a 2IC/Foreman role
- WTR licence required
- Class 2 or Class 4 licence preferred
- Confident operating excavators, trucks and loaders
- Comfortable working in road corridors and around live services
- Good understanding of service plans, site safety and reinstatement standards
- Reliable, adaptable and a good communicator
- A practical, can-do attitude and the ability to make decisions on site
- Civil carpentry experience would be a bonus
- Valid Site Safe or Construct Safe – we can assist with this
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug test
