Full Job Description:

Located in Eyrewell Forest, this is a great opportunity for a Dairy Assistant looking for a casual role with a minimum 3-month assignment, starting mid-September 2026.

The farm milks 680 cows across 165 hectares and operates a rotary shed with ACRs and Protrack. It's a grass-based system with some in-shed feeding, making this a straightforward operation for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on dairy farming.

The farm runs one herd with an easy-to-manage system and a good mix of modern technology and practical farming. You'll be joining the team during the calving and mating period before moving into the post-mating roster.

  • Casual position
  • Minimum 3-month assignment
  • Start date: Mid-September 2026
  • Herd size: 680 cows
  • Farm size: 165 hectares
  • Location: Eyrewell Forest
  • Wage: $25 per hour
  • Roster:
    • 6 days on / 2 days off during calving and mating
    • 5 days on / 2 days off post-mating
  • Accommodation: Single-person quarters
  • Grass-based system with some in-shed feeding
  • One herd

Tasks:

  • Milking and daily shed operations
  • Assisting with calving and mating
  • Animal handling and stock management
  • Feeding and general dairy farm duties
  • Monitoring herd health and condition
  • General farm maintenance
  • Operating farm vehicles and equipment as required
  • Supporting the team with seasonal work
  • Assisting with wintering cows off farm for approximately 6 weeks

Requirements:

  • Previous dairy farming experience preferred
  • Good stock sense and animal handling skills
  • Reliable and willing to get stuck in
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work the required roster
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
