Toolbox Talk - Conservation

We only have one planet! We all need to do our part, however small, to ensure that we protect the environment and our resources for ourselves and the future generations.

We only have one planet! We all need to do our part, however small, to ensure that we protect the environment and our resources for ourselves and the future generations. The way we live and work reflects how we feel about the natural world. By changing the way, we do things or making slight adjustments we can make a difference.

Conserving Water

  • Don’t let the tap running while washing your hands.
  • Report leaks in the pipe/hose connections as soon as possible.
  • Taps should always be tightly closed
  • Avoid indiscriminate use of water for cleaning and washing.

Conserving Electricity

  • Turn off lights when not in use. Use natural lighting if possible.
  • Turn off machines and other electrical appliances when not in use. (i.e. lights, blowers, fans, computers, air conditioning units etc.)
  • Regularly clean the surfaces of artificial lighting systems to achieve maximum illumination.

Conserving Materials

Several waste materials can be readily re-used: larger lengths of timber, large pieces of flooring, cladding, building wrap, polythene, slightly damaged finished products such as mouldings, cabinets and doors and leftover paints. Individually these materials don’t fill skips but collectively they can send total waste from one or two skips per job to two or three.

Lunch Waste

Use the provided site rubbish bins or bags for lunch wrappers, food scraps etc. This will also avoid skip contamination.

Waste Disposal

Compacting, consolidating, sorting and flat stacking your plasterboard, timber, metals, insulation, cardboard and plastic packaging waste can save considerable volume in your waste skips.
