Here at Max People, we regard Health and Safety as very important. Max People is up to date with the requirements of the NZ Health and Safety in Employment Act.

Here at Max, we value our employees and more importantly their safety and wellness. We encourage all team members to help us achieve a zero-harm construction work site. We do this with regular site visits to get one on one time and talk with our employees personally to ensure that they understand the risks and hazards they face working in the construction sector.

Our health and safety culture revolves around teamwork. Everyone pitches in to make each task as safe as possible. It's not just about going through the motions. It's about looking out for one another and speaking up when people are doing unsafe practices. Health and Safety become a habit, something we do every day to ensure that we all go home safe and sound.

An overview of our health & safety commitments

While we strive for maximum productivity and quality in our work, health & safety practices are at the forefront of our thinking. We are constantly adapting to our environment and responsibilities to deliver a safe workplace for both clients and staff. We promote awareness and understanding of Health and Safety through:

  • Communicating changes to health and safety legislation.
  • Identifying leadership roles and responsibilities to improve safety on site.
  • Outlining policies and procedures at formal meetings while discussing all safety and wellness issues.
  • Encouraging communication and active participation in the health and safety plan.
  • Health and Safety awareness training such as first aid, hazard identification, how to wear and use the appropriate personal protective equipment as well as an induction when you join our team.

Statement of Commitment to Health & Safety

Max People is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for everyone using the premises or sites as a place of work or visiting. As Management, we accept responsibility to:

  • Establish health and safety objectives and performance criteria for all managers and work areas
  • Annually review health and safety objectives and the manager's performance.
  • Encourage accurate and timely reporting and recording of all incidents and injuries.
  • Investigate all reported incidents and injuries to identify all contributing factors and, where appropriate, formulate plans for corrective actions.
  • Actively encourage the early reporting of any pain or discomfort.
  • Provide treatment and rehabilitation plans that ensure a safe, early and durable return to work.
  • Ensure that all workers are made aware of the hazards in their work areas and are adequately trained so they can carry out their duties in a safe manner.
  • Encourage worker consultation and participation in all health and safety matters.
  • Allow workers to elect health and safety representatives.
  • Ensure that all contractors and subcontractors are actively managing health and safety for themselves and their workers.
  • Promote a system for continuous improvement, including an annual review of policies and procedures.
  • Meet the obligations of HSWA 2015 – Duties of Workers Section 45 (a) – (d) and Duties of other persons at workplace Section 46 (a)-(c).
  • Every worker is expected to share in the commitment to health and safety.
  • Every Manager, Supervisor and Foreperson is accountable to the employer for the health and safety of workers working under their direction..
  • Each worker is expected to help maintain a safe and healthy workplace through:
    • Full disclosure of any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries.
    • Following all safe work procedures, rules and instructions.
    • Properly using all safety equipment and clothing provided.
    • Early reporting of any pain or discomfort.
    • Taking an active role in the company's treatment and rehabilitation plan, for their "early and durable for work".
    • Reporting all incidents, injuries and hazards to the appropriate person.


Max People recently achieved a green status in our annual Level 1 SiteWise assessment; assuring our clients of our quality health and safety systems.

SiteWise is an online prequalification system that grades a contractor’s health and safety capability and publishes that grade in a database that can be viewed by main contractors and principal organisations. These organisations use SiteWise to make better-informed contractor selections, making the tendering process simpler and more efficient for everyone involved.

Contractors complete a 12 step questionnaire, which is assessed by qualified health and safety practitioners. This assessment results in a percentage score, which is published in the SiteWise Contractor Database and can be accessed by main contractors or principal organisations who have signed up to use SiteWise.
